Today, a growing number of parents are opting to home-educate their children. Some do this for religious reasons. Others do it because they want to ensure that their children receive the best possible education and don’t necessarily feel that the public school system is ideal for that. Some parents have completely different reasons to choose homeschooling in Montana. However, regardless or your reasons for homeschooling your children, you need to know a few things about Montana’s laws and regulations regarding at-home education.

It’s Easy

One of the first things you will find about homeschooling in Montana is that it’s far easier here than in most other states in the nation. While states like California are taking steps to remove parents’ rights to educate their children at home, Montana is empowering parents to give their children an education at home. You can find more information here: http://opi.mt.gov/pdf/Measurement/HomeSchoolPacket.pdf

The No’s

You’ll find a lot of leeway if you are considering homeschooling in Montana. Unlike many other states, Montana has no:

Required curriculum

Requirements on who is allowed to homeschool

Required standardized tests

More information can be found here: http://www.mtche.org/mchelaw.htm

The Do’s

There are a few requirements for those considering homeschooling in Montana, though they are exceptionally easy to meet. These include the following:

Time and attendance must be monitored, recorded and reported

Immunization information has to be maintained

Grades 1-3 require 720 hours of instruction and grades 4-12 require 1080 hours of instruction

Notify the county superintendent of “intent to homeschool”

The location for instruction has to comply with state mandates on health and safety

More information can be found here: http://www.time4learning.com/homeschool/homeschooling_in_montana.shtml

What about Extracurricular Activities

For parents who choose to homeschool in Montana, one of the most frequently heard criticisms from non-homeschooling families is, “What about socialization?” This is an important question and must be answered. Socialization is of vital importance for children, and there are natural concerns that students enrolled in a home study program will not receive the needed amount of socialization. However, there are numerous options open for parents and children homeschooling in the state of Montana.

County Sports Programs: Most counties in the state of Montana have some sort of recreation department where organized sports and other activities can be enjoyed. You’ll find football, soccer, baseball, basketball and numerous other team sports that can help provide socialization for your homeschooler. You’ll also find other programs with some rec departments, such as karate, cheerleading and more.

Scouts: The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America are very present in Montana, and enrolling your child in this organization can not only offer socialization, but the development of life skills they will need down the road. The Scouts teach children survival skills, leadership skills, social responsibility, independence, clear thinking and more.

Religious Organizations: Another option for socialization is to become involved in a local church or other religious organization. There is a lot to be gained from being involved with a group who’s ethics and morals match your own family’s, though secular families can find other organizations and groups that offer further socialization – the 4H, FFA and similar groups can offer considerable benefits.

Montana is well known for its incredibly beautiful mountains. In fact, it was named for them – Montana comes from the Spanish word for mountain. The state is home to more than 100 different mountain ranges, though there are no official boundaries between the ranges and sub-ranges. Many of the separate ranges are actually sub-ranges of the Rocky Mountains, which run from Canada into New Mexico (the Bridger Mountains, for example).

Where

While the eastern half of Montana is relatively flat, the western portion of the state is dominated by towering mountains. Many of these are snowcapped throughout the year, while others are merely foothills of respectable size.

What to Do

The mountains in Montana offer pretty much anything you might care to do. There are thousands of miles of biking trails through the mountains, most located within national parks. There are uncountable options for camping, and adventure trips are also common, though skiing is perhaps the most famous. Hunting, rafting, hiking and even panning for gold and silver are common activities within the various ranges in the state.

Range Names

If you are planning a trip to Montana to explore the mountains, you should know a few of the more common range names you’ll encounter. For instance, the Absaroka Range is part of the Central Rocky Mountains, as is the Beartooth Range. The Bitterroot Mountains run along the state’s extreme western border and cut it off from Idaho. The Continental Divide is on the eastern side of the mountains in Montana, and between the Divide and the Bitterroot Mountains, you’ll find several other key ranges. These include:

The Flint Creek Range

The Missions

The Sapphire Mountains

The Garnet Range

The Cabinet Mountains

The Anaconda Range

Parks within the Mountains

The mountains in Montana are to some of the most spectacular country in the nation, a fact that is reflected in the expansive national parks found here. Perhaps the most famous national parks you will find here is Yellowstone National Park. Montana has three of the five entrances to the park, though most of the land given over as parkland actually lies in Wyoming.

Glacier National Park is another spectacular national park in the mountains, and you’ll find Glacier in the northwest portion of the state. This park is renowned for the number of glaciers you’ll see here, but it is also home to spectacular mountains and pristine rivers, as well.

Tallest Mountains in Montana

For those interested in checking out the tallest of Montana’s towering peaks, there are several that you can choose from. You’ll find the following ranges and peaks:

Getting the right education is the key to finding success in the modern world. Without the right education, you will find your employment options are curtailed significantly. One of the best options for your continuing education and the chance to move ahead in your career is to earn an online psychology degree from an online school in Montana. Who benefits from earning an online psychology degree? Why should you choose an online school in Montana, as opposed to a traditional college or university?

Why Get a Psychology Degree?

When most people think about getting their degree to help advance a career, they imagine an MBA for business, or a nursing degree to get started in the medical industry. They think of a psychology degree as something that psychologists would need, but few others. However, the truth is far, far different. An online psychology degree from an online school in Montana can be useful for a variety of different careers, and is not limited to psychologists only.

Quite a few professionals can use an online psychology degree to advance their careers, including those getting into the world of criminal justice, parole, corrections and even those in human resources or those looking to become social workers. Even business majors can benefit from this type of education. These degrees help with understanding other people, determining what drives them and how they think. As such, an online psychology degree from an online school in Montana can be immensely beneficial for you.

Why Choose an Online School?

Now that you can see how valuable a psychology degree can be, it’s important to understand why you should choose an online school in Montana. What makes online classes better than attending a traditional school? Actually, there’s a misconception here that needs to be cleared up before going any further. Most people think of “online schools” as being different from traditional schools. While distance education does have its differences from in-person classes, they’re not that different.

In fact, you’ll find that earning an online psychology degree from an online school in Montana actually allows you to attend a traditional school in a virtual setting. Most community colleges, state colleges and even universities in Montana now offer online courses for students who find attending in-person classes difficult or impossible. That means you are able to get the same quality education and the same degree as a student who actually goes to the campus and sits in class in person.

Other Benefits of Online Schools

There are numerous other benefits to getting an online psychology degree from an online school in Montana. For instance, you will find that this is far more flexible than attending traditional classes, making it ideal for those who are already in the workforce. Traditionally, adult students already working fulltime often found it impossible to get a higher degree and advance their careers without sacrificing their job. Online education gives you the ability to take the classes you need and earn a psychology degree while still working fulltime. Even those with fulltime family responsibilities can benefit here, which makes this a great choice for mothers about to return to the workforce, those who have in-home care responsibilities and many others.

Obviously, earning an online psychology degree from an online school in Montana is an excellent thing for almost anyone. In fact, there are very few people who will not find benefits here. Getting your degree and making yourself a more attractive employment prospect for companies is easier than ever thanks to modern technology.

Considerations When Choosing Colleges and Universities in Montana

For students about to enter college or enroll in one of the top universities in Montana, there are some considerations that need to be made first. One of the most important considerations is whether or not the school offers online classes. Distance education is an essential component for adult students, but even those entering college direct from high school can benefit from these flexible courses.

Another important thing to consider is whether or not the school you want to attend is accredited. All of the schools listed above are viable and accredited by a recognized organization. However, there are schools in Montana that lack any accreditation. If the school you are considering is not accredited, you need to choose another one.

Finally, you should consider the school’s student to teacher ratio. The lower this ratio is, the better you will be able to learn. Crowded classrooms can result in a difficult time, and you might even find that your professor has so many students in need of help that he or she has virtually none to spend with you if you need assistance with a difficult subject. Obviously, you want to make sure you make the best choice here.

A criminal justice degree is a vital consideration for anyone getting into the field of corrections, or those interested in law enforcement. In addition, paralegals, legal assistants, court officials, judges and numerous others can use this degree to their advantage. For many students, earning an online criminal justice degree from an online school in Montana is the best bet. However, there are some things that you will need to know before you choose a school to get your degree. What should you know? Here are some important tips for would-be students hoping to take advantage of distance education.

Distance Education Is Convenient

For many students, particularly adult students who are already working fulltime, attending in-person classes is not inconvenient – it’s impossible. The requirement to physically be in class during the day means that those who currently work fulltime will not be able to attend class without changing their work schedule. For those who need a fulltime income, that’s not possible. However, online criminal justice degree programs from online schools in Montana give students a way to get around this problem.

The key here is that all the classes are offered in a virtual format. This means that students do not have to be physically present in a classroom. Rather, they are able to take part in a virtual classroom. In addition, the fact that these classes can be taken when it is convenient means that adult students do not have to work fewer hours or quit their jobs to get the education they need.

Online Degrees Require Personal Dedication

While distance education is convenient, you’ll find that in order to benefit from online criminal justice degree programs from online schools in Montana, you have to be dedicated and self-motivated. The main reason for this is that there will be no one standing over you ensuring that you are doing your coursework. You need to be able to motivate yourself to complete all your studies in a timely manner.

In addition to being self-motivated, you also have to be good at time management. Managing your time wisely is vital for any student taking online classes. It can be difficult, though. You will have to schedule time for studying, for listening to lectures, completing assignments and more. These things will need to be worked in between your regular day-to-day activities, which can often require quite a bit of creativity.

Make the Right Choice in Schools

Of course, one of the most important tips for those considering online criminal justice degree programs from an online school in Montana is to make sure that you choose the right program. Not all online schools are created equal, and some will do little more than take your money without actually providing you with the education you need.

You might want to consider attending a traditional school in Montana that offers online courses in addition to their regular on-campus classes. This gives you the ability to visit the campus if there’s a need, or to speak with your professors in person.

In addition, it’s important that you choose only online schools that have been accredited by an organization recognized by the National Board of Education and the CHEA. Without such accreditation, the school is worthless to you. The degree that you receive will likely not be recognized by any potential employers, and you’ll find that it was little more than a waste of time and money. Do your research and make sure that you are considering schools with accreditation from recognized organizations in the industry.

For those interested in getting into one of the fastest growing professions in the world, a nursing degree is vital. However, you’ll find that you have more than one option for getting the degree that you need. For instance, earning an online nursing degree from an online school in Montana might just be the best option for your needs. Distance education has become incredibly popular in recent years, but you will need to know a few things prior to enrolling in an online nursing degree program.

Not All Online Nursing Degrees Are Created Equal

While you might think that an associate’s degree in nursing from one school is much the same as one from another school, that’s actually far from the truth. Just like traditional schools, online schools differ greatly from one another. If you intend to earn an online nursing degree from an online school in Montana, you’ll need to make an informed choice in the school that you attend. What makes a good school?

First, the school needs to offer both practical and virtual education. Unlike some other courses, getting a nursing degree cannot be done in a fully virtualized environment. This is because you have to have a certain number of clinic hours under your belt in order to qualify for your degree, even if it’s only an associate’s degree. Therefore, you need to make sure that you choose a school that partners with a good medical institution in your area. You’ll be doing your clinic work at whatever institution your school collaborates with, so consider the institution’s location, the neighborhood, the time that you’ll need to be in attendance and how bad the commute will be.

When earning an online nursing degree from an online school in Montana, you also need to consider whether the school is accredited or not. If the school is not accredited, you need to avoid it. Unaccredited schools will not provide you with the quality education that you need, and any degree you earn there will be virtually worthless, as most medical institutions will not accept it.

What Type of Degree Do You Need?

Another thing that you will need to know about earning an online nursing degree from an online school in Montana involves the degrees offered. Most schools that provide distance education for nursing professionals offer at least an associate’s degree so you can become a registered nurse. What if you already have your associate’s degree? If so, then you need to make sure that you find out about schools that offer RN to BSN courses. If you already have your bachelor’s degree, you will need to look at the higher degrees on offer. You will find that as the degree type gets higher, you have fewer and fewer schools from which to choose.

Fully Online School or a Traditional School with Online Courses?

Next up in things that you need to know when considering an online nursing degree from an online school in Montana involves choosing a traditional school or a national, online education provider. You will find a wide range of “national” schools that offer nursing degrees that have no physical campus at all. While these can be fine, you might find it preferable to attend a traditional school that also offers online courses.

There are some pretty significant benefits to be found by attending a traditional school, including the fact that there is a physical campus that you can visit if the need arises, and that you can actually meet your professors face to face if you need to.
